People with Alzheimer’s aren’t losing their minds, they’re losing their memories
The Issue
Our endeavour, driven by Ujala Cygnus Hospitals, starts with a simple, yet profound assertion: Individuals with Alzheimer's are not losing their minds, they're losing their memories. In a world often quick to exclude, we ask for patience, understanding and, above all, love.
Alzheimer's affects nearly 50 million people worldwide (World Alzheimer Report 2019). The estimated Alzheimer prevalence for adults aged 60+ in India is 7.4% (PubMed- Prevalence of dementia in India: National and state estimates from a nationwide study). Despite its prevalence, awareness around it and empathy towards those suffering remains limited. Scattered memories shouldn't equate to discarded lives. Despite their lost memories, individuals with Alzheimer's can still feel love and care – a crucial fact often overlooked.
To families: You are the guiding light in their clouded world. Your love and patience are the best medicine. Cherish every moment; your support is their strength.
To everyone: A simple smile or act of understanding can make a huge difference. Spread kindness and the healing power of love – it's needed now more than ever.
Join our movement to create a more compassionate world for those with Alzheimer's:
- Pledge to treat people having Alzheimer's with dignity and respect
- Commit to educating yourself and others about the realities of living with Alzheimer's
- Promise to support families dealing with Alzheimer's with empathy and understanding
