The Shutdown of X.
Dictator Maduro's crackdown continues unabated. Today's news is the blocking of the social network X (formerly Twitter) for 10 days. During the first days of August, we saw X become the leading source of information about Venezuela, with news of protests and opinions shared around the world. Social X hosted more than 8 million tweets a day about Venezuela in several languages. It beat even Instagram, perhaps because it is less news-oriented and more dedicated to sharing visual content and advertising. Today, the situation is much different. Turbulent revolutionary spirits give less battle, and online contempt for Maduro's dictatorship is lower. The number of tweets has significantly decreased. Those who follow news from Venezuela are still there, given the significant number of views on tweets. The decline is possibly due to the international situation. There are too many distractions. The USA is determined and continues to strongly support 2 distant wars with crazy government spending. China is to be monitored constantly. Iran is about to act. The U.S. presidential election campaign is entering a decisive phase, with daily news about the statements of the two candidates. The Olympics are coming to a close. Even so, we are all there, still waiting.
Abroad.
I think the whole world wants good news now. We are all thinking about what could happen to improve the situation in Venezuela. Maybe we all stay too busy watching, reading, or, at most, re-posting tweets. We would all like a decisive intervention to dislodge the dictatorship and its followers, and we look forward to it. We would like democracy and peace, and we do not believe in a slow, democratic transition of power. Likewise, we think someone should intervene. Who, though? The Venezuelan people do not seem to be able to lead a massive, forced revolt at the moment to establish democracy. Who would have any interest in intervening by force in the geographic region that is the realm of drug trafficking, difficult to control, with dangerous armed gangs and raw materials disputed by many? Certainly, oil is plentiful and easy to extract, however, there are large debts to China to pay and interest on clandestine gold mines bought by Russia. A conflict could be very expensive and difficult. At this time, there is not enough motivation for any neighboring nation to take action, and perhaps not even economic interest.
Venezuela's armed forces.
Venezuela's armed forces are controlled by dictator Maduro. There are as many as 2,000 generals in Venezuela, all of them well-paid with lots of money and executive positions in state-owned enterprises. We have to be honest and practical, all these men of the dictatorship certainly do not want to lose their acquired wealth because, in Venezuela, the rest of the population lives among misery, hunger and the impossibility of self-determination. Let us not expect any high-ranking military men to support the revolution. Quite different is the situation for the rest of the army corps. The lower-ranking military live on decidedly low pay, are closely watched by military intelligence, and the penalties for treason are harsh. The lower-ranking military does not feel sympathy for the dictatorship, they are disgruntled and support the change wanted by the opposition because they are all more aware of the people's problems. They would also welcome the change to improve their professional conditions. The opposition has astutely declared in recent days that it will not prosecute the regime's military in the same way Maduro does with his opponents. Of course, there will be punishment in cases of serious crime, but there will be no repression. The opposition is cautious and diplomatic, not wanting war in the streets but winking at the military.
What the opposition is doing.
The opposition seeks presence in the international media. It is visible the increase in Maria Corina Machado's interviews with major foreign newspapers these days. Her statements continue to help raise awareness among foreigners and thus draw attention to the increasing pressure on Maduro. The opposition in Venezuela is being strangled by arbitrary kidnappings of its political leaders. All those who favor and help opposition politicians are persecuted by the regime, including their families. It is really difficult to carry on an effective opposition in this situation of terror.
Maduro's new strategy.
Maduro's strategy is very clear, he is trying to stall. He is trying to buy as much time as possible. Maduro has noticed that the fury of the people is less loud in the streets, perhaps due to the widespread fear of the people. Maduro and his henchmen continue to persecute all those who speak differently than them. They continue to perpetuate crimes against humanity with massive deportations, the spread of fear, the suppression of any opposing voice, and the murder of innocents. According to Maduro, the victorious opposition must die. Maduro wants the obliteration of protests. His biggest nightmare seems to be revolt and the free voice of the opposition. That is why the closure of access to Twitter, certainly not because Elon Musk is his boxing match rival, rather, his problem is the free voice of the oppressed on X. Maduro believes that 10 days of shutting down X should be enough to reduce protests. Maduro has warned of the imminent danger of the collapse of his dictatorship, which is why he has run for cover. Maduro wishes for the protests to cool down. Once again, we note that Maduro does not have the intellectual faculties to take astute initiatives. We think that on his side is some smart, experienced, and most likely foreign political advisor today. Maduro certainly has talent as a mafia boss for distributing wealth and making allies with few scruples. He has been there for 25 years, but it is now clear that at any time he could make mistakes. Maduro is certainly not living a quiet life.
What could happen.
Maduro could make a mistake in executing his power as dictator in Venezuela. Remember the fall of the regime in Tunisia with the Arab Spring? It was triggered by the sacrifice of a poor, self-immolated street trader. The tired people created their own united and mass revolution. Within days, the dictator fell and from there, the Arab Spring spread to many other states in the Middle East. The Arab world is culturally very different from the latin world. The value of martyrdom is certainly not peculiar to South American culture, but a vicious execution error by Maduro could turn on the low-ranking military, which would find easy support in the angry people.
What we all have to do.
We must move forward without abandoning the Venezuelan people. If we continue to press on with our protests by staying united, we could create a mass that is impossible to silence. We must take action with opinions and sharing on all possible electronic and multimedia channels. We have all seen Maduro's fear these days; it was a happy novelty. Let us push him to act impulsively, we have all seen that he is incapable of sustaining stress, stress is his weakness. Let's push him to make mistakes.

La represión del dictador Maduro no cesa. La noticia de hoy es el bloqueo de la red social X (ex Twitter) durante 10 días. Durante los primeros días de agosto, vimos cómo X se convertía en la principal fuente de información sobre Venezuela, con noticias de protestas y opiniones compartidas en todo el mundo. La red social X albergó más de 8 millones de tuits al día sobre Venezuela en varios idiomas. Superó incluso a Instagram, quizás porque está menos orientada a las noticias y más dedicada a compartir contenidos visuales y publicidad. Hoy, la situación es muy diferente. Los turbulentos espíritus revolucionarios dan menos batalla y el desprecio online a la dictadura de Maduro es menor. El número de tuits ha disminuido significativamente. Los que siguen las noticias de Venezuela siguen ahí, dado el importante número de visualizaciones de los tuits. El descenso se debe posiblemente a la situación internacional. Hay demasiadas distracciones. EE.UU. está decidido y sigue apoyando firmemente 2 guerras lejanas con un gasto público loco. Hay que vigilar constantemente a China. Irán está a punto de actuar. La campaña para las elecciones presidenciales en EE.UU. entra en una fase decisiva, con noticias diarias sobre las declaraciones de los dos candidatos. Los Juegos Olímpicos están llegando a su fin. En el extranjero.
Creo que ahora todo el mundo quiere buenas noticias. Todos estamos pensando en lo que podría ocurrir para mejorar la situación en Venezuela. Quizá todos estemos demasiado ocupados mirando, leyendo o, como mucho, retuiteando tuits. A todos nos gustaría una intervención decisiva para desalojar a la dictadura y a sus seguidores, y la esperamos con impaciencia. Nos gustaría la democracia y la paz, y no creemos en una transición lenta y democrática del poder. Del mismo modo, pensamos que alguien debe intervenir. ¿Pero quién? El pueblo venezolano no parece capaz de liderar en este momento una revuelta masiva y forzada para instaurar la democracia. ¿Quién tendría interés en intervenir por la fuerza en una región geográfica que es el reino del narcotráfico, difícil de controlar, con peligrosas bandas armadas y materias primas disputadas por muchos? Ciertamente, el petróleo es abundante y fácil de extraer, sin embargo, hay que pagar grandes deudas a China y los intereses de las minas de oro clandestinas compradas por Rusia. Un conflicto podría ser muy caro y difícil. En este momento, no hay motivación suficiente para que ninguna nación vecina tome medidas, y quizá ni siquiera interés económico.
Las fuerzas armadas de Venezuela.
Las fuerzas armadas de Venezuela están controladas por el dictador Maduro. En Venezuela hay hasta 2.000 generales, todos ellos bien pagados, con mucho dinero y cargos ejecutivos en empresas estatales. Hay que ser honestos y prácticos, todos estos hombres de la dictadura seguramente no quieren perder sus riquezas adquiridas porque, en Venezuela, el resto de la población vive entre la miseria, el hambre y la imposibilidad de autodeterminarse. No esperemos que ningún militar de alto rango apoye la revolución. Muy diferente es la situación del resto de los cuerpos del ejército. Los militares de baja graduación viven con sueldos decididamente bajos, están estrechamente vigilados por la inteligencia militar y las penas por traición son duras. Los militares de baja graduación no sienten simpatía por la dictadura, están descontentos y apoyan el cambio que quiere la oposición porque todos son más conscientes de los problemas del pueblo. También acogerían con satisfacción el cambio para mejorar sus condiciones profesionales. La oposición ha declarado astutamente en los últimos días que no perseguirá a los militares del régimen de la misma manera que Maduro lo hace con sus opositores. Por supuesto, habrá castigo en casos de delitos graves, pero no habrá represión. La oposición es prudente y diplomática, no quiere guerra en las calles pero hace guiños a los militares.
Qué hace la oposición.
La oposición busca presencia en los medios de comunicación internacionales. Es visible el aumento de las entrevistas de María Corina Machado con los principales periódicos extranjeros estos días. Sus declaraciones siguen ayudando a sensibilizar a los extranjeros y así llamar la atención sobre la creciente presión sobre Maduro. La oposición en Venezuela está siendo estrangulada por los secuestros arbitrarios de sus líderes políticos. Todos aquellos que favorecen y ayudan a los políticos de la oposición son perseguidos por el régimen, incluidas sus familias. Es realmente difícil llevar a cabo una oposición efectiva en esta situación de terror.
La nueva estrategia de Maduro.
La estrategia de Maduro es muy clara, está tratando de tomar tiempo. Trata de ganar el mayor tiempo posible. Maduro ha notado que la furia del pueblo es menos ruidosa en las calles, quizás debido al miedo generalizado de la gente. Maduro y sus secuaces siguen persiguiendo a todos los que hablan diferentes a ellos y perpetúan crímenes contra la humanidad con deportaciones masivas, la propagación del miedo, la supresión de cualquier voz contraria y el asesinato de inocentes. Según Maduro, la oposición victoriosa debe morir. Maduro quiere la aniquilación de las protestas. Su mayor pesadilla parece ser la revuelta y la voz libre de la oposición. Por eso el cierre del acceso a Twitter, ciertamente no porque Elon Musk sea su rival en el combate de boxeo, más bien, su problema es la voz libre de los oprimidos en X. Maduro cree que 10 días de cierre de X deberían ser suficientes para reducir las protestas. Maduro ha advertido del peligro inminente del colapso de su dictadura, por lo que ha corrido a refugiarse. Maduro desea que las protestas se calmen. Una vez más, constatamos que Maduro no tiene facultades intelectuales para tomar iniciativas astutas. Creemos que de su lado exista hoy algún asesor político inteligente, experimentado y probablemente extranjero. Ciertamente Maduro tiene talento de padrino mafioso para repartir riquezas y mantener los aliados con pocos escrúpulos. Lleva 25 años allí pero ahora está claro que en cualquier momento podría cometer errores y caer. Desde luego, Maduro no lleva una vida tranquila.
Lo que podría ocurrir.
Maduro podría equivocarse en la ejecución de su poder como dictador en Venezuela. ¿Recuerdan la caída del régimen en Túnez con la Primavera Árabe? Fue desencadenada por el sacrificio de un pobre comerciante callejero autoinmolado. El pueblo, cansado, creó su propia revolución unida y masiva. En pocos días cayó el dictador y, a partir de ahí, la Primavera Árabe se extendió a muchos otros Estados de Oriente Próximo. El mundo árabe es culturalmente muy diferente del mundo latino. El valor del martirio no es ciertamente propio de la cultura sudamericana, pero un vil error de ejecución por parte de Maduro podría encender a los militares de bajo rango, que encontrarían fácil apoyo en el airado pueblo.
Lo que todos debemos hacer.
Debemos avanzar sin abandonar al pueblo venezolano. Si seguimos adelante con nuestras protestas manteniéndonos unidos, podríamos crear una masa imposible de silenciar. Debemos actuar opinando y compartiendo en todos los canales electrónicos y multimedias posibles. Todos hemos visto el miedo de Maduro en estos días, era una feliz novedad. Empujémoslo a actuar impulsivamente, todos hemos visto que es incapaz de sostener el estrés, el estrés es su debilidad. Empujémoslo a cometer errores.
Trabajemos juntos. Hagamos oír nuestra voz. Repudiemos juntos la dictadura y los crímenes contra la humanidad. Firma esta petición.
