People of Ontario Demand Safe, Accessible and Effective Pediatric Care

The Issue

There is a pediatric health care crisis occurring in Ontario with zero action from provincial government. Pediatric ICUs are significantly over capacity, emergency wait times are lengthy and over the counter children’s pain medications are unavailable.

We demand the following actions:

  1. Repeal Bill 124 - there is no health care without HUMANS, including nurses, RTs and allied health. Invest in them.
  2. Work with the federal government to temporarily suspend bilingual labeling requirements for children’s antipyretics and pain relievers. Ensure access to first line oral antibiotic suspensions such as amoxicillin. Increase the supply of necessary medications NOW.
  3. Allow innovative methods of care delivery at the hospital and community level. This should include direct OHIP billing by nurse practitioners to enhance access to primary care providers.
  4. Consider the classroom! Decrease class sizes to allow for adequate physical distancing and decreased viral exposure.
