Stop Cruelty towards elephants

Stop Cruelty towards elephants
The Issue
the reason I chose to do this petition was because a lot of elephants all over the region are being treated cruelly. The calves get taken away from their mothers to be trained in order to give rides and walk in peraheras. The trainers or mahouts use whips, electric shocks, and a bullhook which is a long stick with a curved knife at the end which is used behind the elephants’ ears. Some elephant calves do not survive this initial process.
Most manhouts also use a spiked bracelet that gets tied around the elephants ankle. This can be extremely painful and can cause injury and infection that can lead to death. These elephants are forced to pull large rocks, logs and other heavy materials in order to break there spirits and make them obedient.
These poor elephants are tied up in corners and sometimes beaten so they will start to be afraid of the manhout. At times they are made to walk in chains on concrete with heavy costumes on this is all done for our selfish entertainment. Remember elephants are emotional and sensitive creatures that can feel pain just like us.
In Sri Lanka Cruelty against elephants has become quite a complicated conversation lets keep it simple and agree that we can and must stop cruelty against elephants! If you agree please sign my petition.
