Happy New Year folks. And once again, thank you for moving PEMRA. PEMRA has finally asked GEO TV for a written explanation for its breach of PEMRA Rules 2009 and it's code of conduct (schedule-A). GEO has also tendered a public apology. As pointed out in our initial letter, there is no compromise on our two demands to GEO. 1) Apology 2) #FireAmirLiaqat We are concerned that GEO has still not fired Aamir Liaquat despite his unapologetic stance in his last program, wherein he responded to his initial anti-Ahmadi hate speech with even more anti-Ahmadi hatred - and threats. The con artist knows what sells best amongst the Mullah-fed masses. The answer to this continued bigotry lies with us, the civil society. We will have to raise our voice higher than the bigots. We refuse to be scared by their hollow threats. #FireAmirLiaqat: We believe it is time for us - the civil society of Pakistan - to take to social media once again. This time, we need to press on GEO to #FireAmirLiaqat immediately, or share the full blame for his crimes. We need to cleanse our TV screens of con artists and criminals whose words literally kill innocent Pakistanis. #ArrestAmirLiaqat & #ArrestArifOwaisi: At the same time, we need to press on PEMRA and the State to take this hate speech and incitement to violence seriously and set a strong precedent by #ArrestAmirLiaqat and #ArrestArifOwaisi. This is vital to our nation's war on extremism. The State must live up to its recent promises to fight hate speech in Mosques and Madrasas and show that it is capable of being taken seriously for a change. It must definitely punish habitual inciters of sectarian hatred and violence. Aamir Liaquat must be tried under Section 153 (a) of Pakistan Penal Code (http://www.lawofpakistan.com/pakistanpenalcode/153-A.php) and Section 8 of ATA 97 (http://www.fia.gov.pk/ata.htm).
