”Dear Neighbors:
PECO will supply trees! Additional information to come.
· The trees need to be planted mid May.
· The trees will be dropped off at UMLY, most likely. More details, time and date to follow.
· UMLY will hopefully supplying volunteers from their Volunteer Outreach Program to help plant the trees for individual homeowners if they feel they are unable to plant the trees themselves. However, may only be for large planting of buffers. DCVA will hold a tree planting event and would like to have community members receiving trees to participate, you don't have to be physically strong . Extra hands to hold a tree still , or tie a tree cage on is helpful.
· The Darby Creek Valley Association (DCVA) is orchestrating this at the recommendation of Easttown Township. Director Susan Miller has worked hard and really put on her thinking cap to make this happen. Thank you to Sue! You can learn more about our local watershed organization, The Darby Creek Valley Association at www. dcva.org.
· DCVA would like to have at least 1 or 2 properties, that are right next to a stream bank and could use the riparian buffer development. The UMLY volunteers will help with these big projects. If you have such a property, please email Sue Miller at Susan Miller suedcva@gmail.com by April 28!!
· DCVA will hold a tree planting workshop, site to be determined. Attendance will be required for anyone who is requesting a trees for their properties. Everyone will learn where, how deep, etc., to plant the trees and how to take care of them. Attendance will help to determine how many trees can be distributed to each homeowner, and the type that they should take, based on where they want to plant them, the height, the water tolerance, etc.
You can have someone else pick up trees and have them planted under certain circumstances. Contact Sue Miller for exception. The homeowner still needs to attend workshop.
· Individual homeowners might each get a few to several trees, depending on demand. Any trees we cannot place with homeowners will be planted on UMLY property.
· After everything is confirmed an email will be sent out to register for the workshop and to take trees at www.dcva.org
With best regards,
Sue Miller
