NH Seacoast Communities Take Note!

The Pease Development Authority (PDA) is negotiating with developers to build huge air cargo facilities at Pease Tradeport.  How will our lives and environment be impacted if this project proceeds as proposed?  

The scale of the Pease Cargo Facility could bring the largest airfreight flights, domestically and internationally, at all hours of the day and night over our small towns along the NH and southern Maine Seacoasts. We will face polluted air and disturbance to our residents' sleep which in turn can negatively impact physical and mental health. This hub will generate a substantial increase in freight trucks causing added noise, pollution and traffic congestion. Our already stressed environment will be exposed to a marked increase in pollution.

What are the issues? 

- Air cargo facilities operate 24/7 and would bring regular night flights of various size aircraft such as 747s and the new giant 777s.  We are not a metropolitan area, we are a group of small NH Seacoast towns. We are surrounded by beautiful marshes and diverse wildlife and only 18 miles of seacoast that is home to an already fragile marine environment. 

- Night flights cause sleep disturbances, a recognized health hazard.  Also, there can be no arrival and/or departure time limits as the FAA does not allow airports to limit volume or time of flights or type of aircraft.

-Truck traffic 24/7 along with noise, diesel particulates and other pollutants.
