“My family settled in Newington in 1850 and we’ve never left. When the town Selectboard decided to sell Newington land to the Air Force in 1952, my great grandfather (who formed the Newington Planning Board) sued the town because the action had not been approved at town meeting. Years later, my grandmother established our town forest to prevent Pease from taking away that land too. We’ve been fighting against the airport or airport expansion for generations now.
My house is nearly as close as you can get to the runway. Pease was obligated to “soundproof” our home - we are one of a handful of homes that experiences vibrations so strong it tinkles the wine glasses in our cupboard. If this expansion occurs, we will be forced to move. When the Air Force was active, many Newington residents who lived near the flight path lost their hearing or developed tinnitus. We can’t live through that kind of noise with our young children. There is no inventory in Newington anymore, so we’d likely have to leave town altogether. It would break my heart, but how could we stay? So let me be clear: I will do whatever it takes to stop this. I will knock on every door in Newington, I’ll call legislators, petition the Governor, write op-Ed’s, attend every meeting, recruit volunteers, do legal research, write press releases, whatever. Please count me in! “. Determined Newington Resident
