My friend, and some other student that I know who are the well behave and the nicest people I know, has become a target of gang activities in our school community. This isn't just impacting him; other students are being affected too. It's alarming and heart-wrenching to witness such a wonderful person being dragged into an environment of fear and intimidation.

Gang involvement in schools is a pressing issue that needs immediate attention. According to the DepEd W. Visayas orders enhanced security measures in schools (Philippine News Agency, July 4, 2025). have reported all schools in the region to strengthen security measures following two stabbing incidents involving learners. We need to enact measures that prevent the influence of gangs in schools and provide safe spaces for all students. Implementing more effective after-school programs, mentoring initiatives, and collaborating with local law enforcement could significantly mitigate this issue. 

Schools should be sanctuaries of learning and growth, not places of fear. It is crucial that parents, educators, and community leaders work together to address this growing problem. We must provide support for those targeted by gangs and ensure that every student has equal access to a safe education.
