Leaders at Portland Community College announced, on March 4, 2022, that they will permanently close the two swimming pools (lap pool and diving pool) at Sylvania campus, which have enhanced the health, safety, and quality of life for thousands of students, faculty, and staff since the early 1970s. Also the pools have served the greater Portland metro area as a site for training thousands of lifeguards, who have saved lives and made it possible for pools all over the region to remain open.
