Kia ora tātou!

My cohort has been busy with clinical placements currently- hopefully surviving our final year of the programme (although our numbers continue to fall). Nevertheless, today we want to draw attention to what may be a huge win for nursing student well-being, the nursing sector, and the health of our communities as a whole! We are thrilled by the news that Health Minister Andrew Little wants nursing students to be paid for hospital placements “as soon as possible”, with officials actively considering significant reforms.

In an article from the NZHerald, which references our petition, government acknowledged, ‘We have to do better.’ It's definitely worth the quick read. This Herald article follows another recent article from RNZ, citing the sheer breaking point nursing students are at with their placements.  The brave AUT student perspective shared is one many nursing students relate to.

This is it whānau! The writing is on the wall, and your voices are being heard!! Now, it is time to hold them to their words and keep the pressure on! Nearly 18,000 have signed our petition since its launch. Can we increase the momentum and make it to 20,000 signatures to deliver to their doorsteps??? Sign/share the petition here. Let's make some noise!!!

We have lit a fire! The power of our community is clear, and every voice matters.

Thank you again to each of you for your unshakable hope as we drive this forward!

Ngā mihi,

Arya
