Pause Planning Approvals on Solihull's Green Belt

Pause Planning Approvals on Solihull's Green Belt
The Issue
SOLIIHULL MBC - You MUST pause all individual planning applications on Green Belt land until you have got your act together and re-issued the Solihull Local Plan.
We have a PLANNING VACUUM, and developers are trying to take advantage of that failure.
It is not acceptable that you make piecemeal decisions which may subsequently backfire on our fragile community.
-----------------------------------------------
As the Chair of the Hockley Heath Action Group, I have seen firsthand the relentless pressure our community faces from developers eager to construct on our precious Green Belt land.
In our quiet village of Hockley Heath, Solihull, we are all too familiar with the plans and proposals that threaten the rural character and natural environments we hold dear.
Endless applications by developers will not just overwhelm the fragile infrastructure of our village ; they profoundly alter the fabric of our region, threatening our landscapes, homes, and way of life.
The Green Belt is not just a line on a map; it’s a vital protection for our natural environment. It plays a crucial role in preserving our countryside, preventing urban sprawl, and maintaining ecosystems that sustain both our wildlife and our sense of community. It's where children play, families hike, and neighbours meet, and it's part of what makes Hockley Heath a unique and special place to live.
Currently, Solihull Council is proposing to accept planning applications on Green Belt land while a new Local Plan is pending. This Local Master Plan is essential—it guides development in a way that respects environmental values and community needs. Proceeding with these applications before the Local Plan is completed and ratified risks irreversible damage. It puts profits before people and nature, undermining the integrity of the comprehensive planning process.
By pausing all planning applications on Green Belt land until the new Local Plan is finalised, the Council can ensure developments are sustainable and truly beneficial to our communities. This pause is crucial for the transparent and responsible planning of our future.
Solihull and Hockley Heath residents - it's time to stand together to protect our village's heritage and environment. Urge the Solihull Council to halt these actions that threaten our cherished Green Belt until they have a clear, community-endorsed Local Plan in place, at both SMBC and local Parish levels. Your support is powerful. Please add your signature to this petition to guide our Council towards a more sustainable future for Hockley Heath and beyond. Sign now and make a difference.
