Pause Musselburgh's Flood Protection Scheme - the Community deserves better.

The Issue

Our previous petition to Pause East Lothian Council’s Musselburgh Flood Protection Plan was unfairly and unreasonably rejected by East Lothian Council's "Democratic " Services Team. They claimed we had written false statements on our petition and misled people into signing it.

Their rejection included quotes that had previously been attributed in the East Lothian Courier to Conor Price, who is a paid flood consultant and the main spokesperson for the Council's Flood Plan.

It is not a democratic, impartial or fair process if one of the key individuals whose flood plan we query is allowed to dictate the reasons for rejecting the Community's petition. This was clearly aimed at stifling democracy and preventing our petition from being placed before our elected Councillors.  This is just one of many issues that are causing so much Community disquiet with how this £99.1m scheme is being forced upon us.

So this time we are keeping our petition short and simple.

We ask for your help to make it VERY clear to East Lothian Councillors how you feel about their Musselburgh Flood Protection Scheme.

If you want to find out more about our campaign  and learn about alternative approaches to flood management that help reduce the risk of flooding and fight climate change, then please visit our website or our Facebook group. More public actions are being planned. The Community is mobilising.

PLEASE SIGN OUR COMMUNITY PETITION IF YOU AGREE WITH THE FOLLOWING STATEMENTS:

East Lothian Council: Pause and Review the Musselburgh Flood Protection Scheme.

We entirely reject the flood protection design presented at the exhibition in June.

We have lost confidence in the MFPS and the consultants.

Musselburgh deserves better.

We want co-production of options that reduce the flood risk and preserve the character of the town focussing on Nature based Solutions on the Esk river catchment and along the coast.
