In a dream recently, Sid came to me, calm, wise, and full of love.

From the other side of the rainbow, he had a message he wished to share with you beautiful souls who have already signed the petition to ‘Pause All Non-Essential Dog Breeding Until All Rescue Dogs Have Homes'.

And to those who haven’t yet signed, this message is for you too.

“When you rescue or buy a dog, what are your reasons?
Is it because you feel lonely? Because you long for love? Or perhaps you seek a companion to guard and protect you?

Whatever the reason, please remember this: we are living, feeling beings. We experience joy, sadness, loneliness, even frustration, just as you do. But unlike you, we cannot share our feelings in words.

We are called 'the voiceless ones'… and yet, we try so hard to speak to you.

We speak through the wag of our tail, the flop of an ear, the bow of a head, the offering of our belly for a tummy rub. We speak with our eyes; those soft, searching eyes that meet yours when you look at us with love.

When you stroke us, we feel it. Your love passes through our fur, into our skin, into our very bones.

We know when you are sad. We know when you need comfort.

And oh, how grateful we are for you for the walks, the food, and the roof over our head at sleepy time.

In return, we offer you the one thing we know how to give without limit: joy!

When we walk with you in nature, we bring you back to the earth.
When we look up at you as you feed us, we see you as something so divine.
When you sing to us at bedtime, it tells us we belong.

Our mission is simple; to love you, to remind you that you are worthy of love, and to show you how wonderful you truly are.

So please… before bringing a dog into your home, look to the shelters.
We are waiting.

If you haven’t yet added your name to the petition, perhaps now is the moment. Not just for me, but for all my brothers and sisters still waiting behind kennel doors.

With love,

Siddhartha Ravenhound
