We desperately need a Separate Baby Loss Unit at the University Maternity Hospital Limerick.

Funding has been rejected for a fully functional Baby Loss Facility but management are now trying to push through funding for a down graded version which is effectively a new EPU but this falls worrying short of what is actually desperately needed.

The current situation is inhumane for women who suffer the trauma of a baby loss. They currently have to sit in waiting rooms with women progressing with their pregnancies. They are being admitted to wards for procedures, or to give birth to babies that have died, while hearing and being surrounded by new born babies and their mothers. The situation is beyond comprehension and adding to an already unbearable time in these families lives.
