Save lives: Help stop business with the military junta in Myanmar

Le problème

Nobody is safe in Myanmar any more. They urgently need us. Please help Myanmar by signing and sharing this petition to voice our unity against crime, abuse, torture and murder of innocents, who are everyday paying with their lives their aspirations to a better and worthy future.

Since the overthrow of the democratically elected leaders by the Tatmadaw military forces on the 1st of February 2021, and until today 26 March 2021, 309 innocent civilians have been killed in Myanmar and at least 2906 people have been unlawfully detained, charged or sentenced. Protesters are now arrested at night, and often charged for treason.

The atrocities perpetrated by the Junta include indiscriminate shootings at peaceful crowds, mass arrests during peaceful protests, sequestration, torture and killing of opponents, harassment, beating and killing of citizens in their homes (including teenagers and children as young as 7 years old), violation and destruction of private and public properties.

It is clear by now that the junta’s main motivation is to secure and protect their personal status and privileges, and to create an environment where they would be safe from being prosecuted for their crimes. As their cruelty shows, they are willing to pursue this goal at any human cost.

We, together, must stop them. And our actions must follow our words.

OUR DEMANDS:

The most effective way to defeat them and save lives in Myanmar is to cut the flow of money that sponsors Tatmadow’s crimes by imposing the widest and strongest worldwide coordinated sanctions on all of their businesses simultaneously.

Hearing the call from the people of Myanmar themselves, and in loyalty with the nation widespread CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE MOVEMENT (CDM) which aims at freezing the whole country’s economic activity to make it impossible for the criminal junta to run state affairs,

We demand:

1 - A systematical BOYCOTT of all the businesses related to the Tatmadaw organization.

2 - A total EMBARGO on the export of all goods where the generated revenues are to be paid to the Tatmadaw or any other entities under their control. The sanctions will have to target all the businesses connected to the military Junta, their family members and partners.

3 - All the companies that are still making business with the Tatmadaw organization or with entities controlled by them must freeze all payments and prepare to make the funds available to the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw - CRPH, which is currently representing the legal government democratically elected on the 8 of November 2020 by the people of Myanmar.

Several foreign companies such as French Total SE, American Chevron Corp, Thai based PTTEP, South Korean Posco steel Ltd. are apparently still doing business with different entities controlled by the Tatamadaw security forces and hundreds of millions of US dollars are still flowing into the military’s hands, with the consequence of further enabling atrocities against the people of Myanmar. To prevent any possibility for this money to be used for the repression and the killing of the Myanmar people, we urge these and all others companies that still entertain businesses ties with the junta to STOP ALL PAYMENTS IMMEDIATELY.

*****
According to UN special rapporteur on Myanmar, Tom Andrews:
“Multilateral sanctions should be imposed on both senior junta leaders and their major sources of revenue including military-owned and controlled enterprises and Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise”.

And as a 2019 UN report already stated: “These companies are at high risk of contributing to or being linked to, violations of human rights law and international humanitarian law”.
