SB 614 is being heard in the Assembly Education Committee on Monday Aug 3! Call in to be a "virtual witness"!

Call in to Support Passage of Senate Bill 614 at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 3. Calling in at 1:00 will put you in the witness queue. When the lines open, you'll say your name, title/affiliation, and that you are in support of passing SB 614 (Rubio). Numbers and further instructions for "virtual witnesses" are below.  Further Explanation:

While using your phone to call in to the committee you can view the televised Assembly legislative session with your computer by going to the Assembly home page at assembly.ca.gov to monitor the convening and the adjournment of the Assembly session.  At the bottom right of the Assembly Home Page there will be link to click on to watch the Assembly Education Hearing in Room 437 upon adjournment of the Assembly legislative session.  Please monitor the education hearing and wait for instructions from Chairman Patrick O’Donnell and the telephone operator on when to press 1 0 to speak in support of SB 614.   

Virtual witnesses are limited to giving your name, title/affiliation, and that you are in support of passing SB 614 (Rubio). If there are technical difficulties and for some reason you accidentally are booted out of the queue waiting line call in again to get back in the queue.  

Virtual witnesses calling in should be ready to testify at the appropriate time and be prepared to wait patiently until the Assembly Education Hearing convenes promptly upon adjournment of the Assembly legislative session.   

What to Expect:

Senator Susan Rubio will present SB 614 to the committee followed by two formal support witnesses who will testify for a total of 4 minutes before Chairman Patrick O’Donnell asks the teleconference moderator to open the phone lines for witnesses to testify in support of SB 614.  This is where you will be able to state your support. Then, there will be four minutes of opposition testimony followed by witnesses in opposition to SB 614 on the teleconference line.  

Upon the conclusion of support and oppose testimony, members of the committee will commence discussion of SB 614 and questions to the witnesses and the bill author before moving to a Roll Call vote on the bill. There are seven members of the policy committee. The bill needs 4 votes to pass.  

Witnesses should expect the education hearing on SB 614 to exceed one hour.
