After starting this petition, I wrote to Representative McHenry, urging him work to abolish abortion. I received a reply in which he informed me of what he is doing to combat abortion. His efforts, which were essentially copied and pasted from his website, include, "defending the ban on partial birth abortion, fighting any effort to legalize euthanasia, and supporting efforts to reduce abortions and increase adoptions."
I replied to Representative McHenry, explaining to him that "defending the ban on partial birth abortions protects only a small percentage of preborn Americans. I did this by pointing out to him that partial-birth abortion or "dilation and extraction" (D & X for short) is fairly rare and is typically used only after 20 weeks, whereas, statistically speaking, most abortions are performed before 20 weeks. Therefore, legislation supported by Representative McHenry, such as the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which "prohibits an abortion from being performed if the probable post-fertilization age of the unborn child is 20 weeks or greater", does not even make a dent in the abortion industry. I also pointed out that "one does not have to search long to find a case of a post- abortive mother citing a severe fetal illness or abnormality as her primary reason for aborting", and that, "under such circumstances, abortion easily fits into the definition of euthanasia."
I, of course, received no further correspondence from Representative McHenry. Please join me in holding Patrick McHenry accountable for his half-hearted efforts to fight abortion and exhorting him to seek for its immediate and total abolition.
