The U.S. Supreme Court affects every aspect of American life. It has the power to strike down any law from an act of Congress to a local school board rule and everything in between.

In recent years the Court has made it easier to buy handguns, allowed unlimited campaign contributions to super pacs, struck down key parts of the Voting Rights Act (which has led to many States enacting laws that make it harder for people to vote) and affirmed the right of all Americans to marry the person they love.

As a result of Justice Antonin Scalia's death, there is now a vacancy on the Court. President Obama has stated he will fulfill his constitutional mandate to nominate a successor. The Republican leadership of the Senate has stated they will block consideration of anyone nominated by President Obama.

The Senate must fulfill it's constitutional mandate to consider a nominee to the Court. This Petition encourages them to do so.
