Extreme Risk Protection Orders/Red Flag Laws are an additional tool for addressing domestic violence. It is crucial that we prioritize the safety of victims and survivors. Unfortunately, Wisconsin does not have a law that allows the relinquishment of firearms for domestic violence victims. It would be particularly reassuring to those who are in danger if their firearms were removed, so they don’t have to live in fear. Extreme Risk Protection Orders can save lives in most circumstances and can fill the gap where this is the only and best way to remove guns from a dangerous domestic violence situation.
