Wisconsin has been considering an Extreme Risk Protection Order, also known as a “Red Flag Law,” for some time. Governor Tony Evers has previously called for a “red flag” gun law in Wisconsin that would allow family members, law enforcement and other concerned parties to petition a judge to temporarily revoke someone’s right to buy, own or carry weapons if they believe that person may be a threat to themselves or others. The “red flag” law is intended to prevent individuals like Henry’s father who pose a risk to themselves or others from accessing firearms. Several states have enacted red flag laws, but Wisconsin hasn’t.
It’s important to note that the “red flag” law isn’t about taking away Second Amendment rights. It’s about the safety of our children and others who are not protected under a law that would keep them from being killed or injured. The law is designed to revoke firearm access for individuals who pose a risk to themselves or others. I owe it to my son Henry that his voice be heard and that the voices of so many innocent victims that have been killed by gun violence are also being voiced. I’m asking for your support to have this law heard in a legislative hearing. Something needs to be done. We owe it to our children and loved ones. Sincerely Henry’s Mother, Jennifer
