Extreme Risk Protection Orders/Red Flag Laws can provide an intermediate option for situations where someone is becoming a serious threat to himself, family members, or the public but has not yet committed a serious crime or falls outside the radar of existing laws. Friends, family members, and co-workers are often well-positioned to recognize when an individual is becoming an extreme risk of danger and have been instrumental in preventing what happened to my son Henry. Unlike other commonly proposed gun control measures, Red-flag laws could have been used to prevent my sons murder and many high-profile mass shootings without infringing on the rights of lawful gun owners. Gun violence is a significant public crisis in this country, with more than 30,000 people killed by firearms each year, and it’s only getting worse. Removing firearms during crisis situations allows for a timely intervention or law enforcement investigation and can prevent tragedies like Henry’s from occurring.” Please help by sharing this important petition.
