I need people to understand this is not just "drama" after a breakup. I was talking about stalking, hovering, surveillance, and those random signs that something is not right because this is how coercive control keeps going after a relationship ends. It’s post separation abuse, and I recently heard from a woman who trusted her instincts, brought someone in to check her house, and found cameras placed in her bathroom, bedroom, and garage. Some survivors have even found tracking devices in their vehicles and other possessions to keep track of their movements . That is not love, closure, or concern. That is control.

This affects so many survivors who are trying to go no contact, heal their nervous systems, and rebuild their lives in peace. When an abusive person feels like they no longer have control, the monitoring can intensify. Survivors are left second-guessing themselves, feeling watched in their own homes, and trying to protect not only themselves but their children too. Nobody should have to live with the fear that someone who used to have access to them is still tracking their every move in secret.

That is why I am calling for state lawmakers to pass laws that clearly make hidden surveillance by an abusive partner or ex-partner a crime and recognize it as coercive control. Secret cameras in private spaces, covert monitoring devices, and using technology to stalk survivors should bring real consequences. Survivors also need a clear path to report this abuse, have devices removed, and get protection before the stalking escalates even further.

If you know how violating it feels to realize someone believes they still own your life, then you know why this has to change. We cannot keep telling survivors to just be careful while leaving the system behind the abuse untouched. I stand with victims and survivors of abuse.
