In Indiana, a former police officer is awaiting trial for the molestation of his stepdaughter—my daughter—and for secretly placing cameras in her bedroom. He is one of five Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers arrested for sex crimes in 2024 alone.

This is not just a family tragedy. It’s a public crisis.

When individuals in positions of authority—especially those sworn to protect—harm children, the consequences are devastating and far-reaching. Yet, our current laws do not go far enough to deter, punish, or prevent this abuse.

That’s why we are calling for Kaylynne’s Law, named after my 15-year-old daughter who bravely chose to speak out and help others through her story. This proposed legislation would:

  • Impose stronger penalties on individuals in authority who commit sexual crimes against children.
  • Eliminate early parole opportunities for convicted offenders in these positions.
  • Mandate lifetime sex offender registration and ban them from ever working with children again.
  • Provide greater support and protection for victims.

We need legislation that makes it clear: those in positions of power who prey on children will face the full weight of justice.

Kaylynne’s courage deserves to lead to change—not just for her, but for every child who deserves to feel safe at home, at school, or in the care of someone they should be able to trust.
