The Issue

To: President Scaman,  Trustee Buchanan, Trustee Enyia, Trustee Parakkat, Trustee Robinson, Trustee Straw and Trustee Wesley.

We ask that the Village of Oak Park join over 100 other municipalities to pass a resolution to save lives and work towards a just and lasting peace.

A PERMANENT CEASEFIRE AND HUMANITARIAN AID FOR GAZA

Presented  to the Oak Park, Illinois Village Board 4/9/2024

WHEREAS the Village of Oak Park and its Board are dedicated to fostering a community that embraces diversity, values all life, and upholds the principles of equality and human rights; and

WHEREAS we condemn all incidents of anti-Jewish, anti-Palestinian, anti-Muslim, xenophobic, and racist rhetoric and attacks that are on the rise nationally, and

WHEREAS we condemn Hamas's unconscionable attack on Israelis and others on October 7, 2023 that resulted in 1,200 deaths and the abduction of hostages, and

WHEREAS we condemn the Israeli government's horrific destruction of Gaza and its people resulting in the displacement of more than a million people and the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians - the vast majority women and children - as well as medical workers, international aid workers, and journalists, and

WHEREAS we condemn the mass starvation of hundreds of thousands of people in Gaza through the withholding and blocking of lifesaving humanitarian aid, and

WHEREAS more than 66% of all Americans support a permanent ceasefire,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, we call for an immediate permanent ceasefire, the provision of immediate and unconditional lifesaving humanitarian aid in Gaza, and the release of all hostages.

RESOLVED, we urge the Biden administration and the United States Congress to do the same, to call for an immediate permanent ceasefire, the provision of immediate and unconditional lifesaving humanitarian aid in Gaza, and the release of all hostages.

RESOLVED, we urge the international community to work with the Palestinian and Israeli peoples to find a just and lasting peace, to carry out a full investigation of the conduct of all parties in this conflict  and to hold accountable all parties and individuals who have facilitated, overseen, or engaged in war crimes and international human rights violations.
