Hello supporters, Yesterday's meeting of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on SB872 quickly became hostile, mainly because of Delegate Bobby Orrock's irritation over how he has been portrayed in the last month. It's no secret to those of us who worked so hard on this bill that Orrock has been the largest roadblock. He opposed HB646 (and subsequently SB872) from the very beginning, was never open to compromise, and made it clear that he would stomp all over it. This video of yesterday's proceedings shows how unhinged Orrock has become. It's worth noting that he tries to cover his opposition by claiming to advocate for widespread animal protection (not just for the dogs on chains). This was intended to mislead. Orrock's game is to keep the laws purposely vague rather than establishing concrete guidelines for what constitutes animal cruelty. He also claims that the parameters we set for weather-related chaining were no more than a backhanded way of banning tethering altogether; he then suggests that we should have proposed an outright anti-tethering law instead. Clearly, he forgot that we tried to do that last year, and he killed that bill too. For many years, Bobby Orrock has been a spike strip in the road. His influence on the subcommittee reaches too far, and it's time for him to go. Rest assured that although we are disappointed in yesterday's outcome, we have raised awareness for this issue, and are working towards unseating him. Thank you for your continued support. Gary
