Hello supporters,
Again, we are exhausted and frustrated.
As you may remember, SB872 was referred BACK to the House Agriculture Subcommittee in what we assume was a deliberate move to kill it for 2018. Well, it did just that. Today, all 5 republicans on the subcommittee voted to "recommend continuing to 2019." In short, this is a less scandalous way to say "we don't want to deal with this bill anymore."
But, the result is the same: SB872 is dead.
We had hoped that this would provide some measure of protection for the poor animals of Virginia who are repeatedly suffering every single year in blistering heat and extreme cold.
Nevertheless, our opposition continues to see "nothing inherently inhumane about putting an animal on a chain." If the photo I've provided looks humane by any stretch of the imagination, we have a major problem in this state. These are the kinds of cases we're dealing with - not the picturesque imaginings of Bobby Orrock where a dog is lying comfortably under a large magnolia tree on a breezy spring day.
Many of you have asked WHY the republicans on the subcommittee would oppose a law like this. The reason is simple: They are in bed with the hunting lobby and the dog breeders; they are corrupt; their votes have been purchased.
The good news is that we are not done fighting. We tried subtlety and compromise with these delegates, and they refused to bend. So, now we're going to war.
I cannot divulge our next steps at the moment, but we are done playing friendly.
Again, these 5 are responsible for today's outcome. I urge you to call them with your thoughts.
