The Issue

As a current student in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District (FCUSD), I have seen firsthand the significant impact education can have on young minds. I recall when, along with the City of Folsom's Waste and Recycling Department, I had the opportunity to present essential recycling practices and raise awareness about climate change to elementary school students. These experiences ignited my passion for sustainability and made me realize the importance of instilling these values at a young age.

Unfortunately, not all students receive these crucial educational opportunities. To address this gap, I propose the FCUSD school board pass a resolution to implement structured climate change and recycling education for elementary students in grades 3 to 5. By doing so, we can ensure that future generations are better equipped to tackle environmental challenges, fostering a community that's knowledgeable and proactive about sustainability.

The proposed curriculum will be a collaborative effort between the FCUSD and the City of Folsom, particularly partnering with the Waste and Recycling Department. Designed to be interactive and engaging, the curriculum aims to blend foundational climate science with practical recycling knowledge, empowering students to make environmentally responsible choices both at home and in their communities.

Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time, with far-reaching impacts that will affect young students today as they grow into the leaders of tomorrow. Education is key to preparing them for this future, and it is imperative that we address it at the local level.

To support this initiative and demonstrate our community’s commitment to sustainability education, we need your signature. Join us in advocating for a brighter, greener future for FCUSD students by supporting this resolution. Your signature will show the FCUSD board that we are united in our demand for action, ensuring that climate and recycling education becomes a staple in our schools.

Please sign this petition. Together, let's make a lasting impact that will extend well beyond our time in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District. Your support is vital and appreciated.
