On Thursday 22nd March, the US president Trump launched a set of tariffs on Chinese goods which appears to be the beginning of trade war between Washington and Beijing. Hong Kong is inevitably involved in this conflict because it is purposely serving China's interest by exploiting Hong Kong's international reputation which was built up by Britain in last century. Hong Kong has been pulled into this conflict since the US imposed tariffs on aluminium and steel, though the production bases are mostly in China, exporting from the city. Also, the United Nations report has revealed that Hong Kong companies, which the origin of the persons in charge of is unknown, have helped North Korea to evade international sanctions. These acts and conducts are definitely not in the name of the British Hong Kongers. Currently, the British government are still focusing on Hong Kong's internal politics such as publishing their Six-monthly reports. But in fact, Hong Kong's geo-political situation is of greater concern. The UK should consider everything possible to safeguard the BNOs living in there.
