What, might you ask, does a green 7" platter of vinyl have to do with the battle against Billy Ocasio's encroachment in Humboldt Park?
First of all, over the Thanksgiving holiday I was interviewed about the new unpermitted structure in the park on live Community Radio by a 29-year veteran DJ at NEIU's WZRD 88.3FM.
I was invited to peruse the endless rows of music in the collection, and my first pick was played during the set. It brings me to my second point, which is printed right on the label and served as no small reminder: THANKS.
Thank you ALL for signing and supporting the petition. But there is room for plenty of additional signatures. Please take a few moments and do what needs to be done to spread the word to others. And for those of you who can, it is time to take action.
Let's not forget why we are doing this. Some of you may know that Jens Jensen designed the waterfall and pond at the North Park Village Nature Center, which is steps away from the WZRD broadcast studio. We are all incredibly fortunate to have had Jensen as Park Superintendent over 100 years ago to put all of this beauty around us in motion on our behalf. What were seedlings and concepts are now woodlands and preserves. Let's keep it going.
The Park District has built and maintained some amazing things since its inception in 1869.
Now, it is time to respect this history and protect the future of our parkland by attending the 11:30AM December 14th Chicago Park District Board Meeting at 5917 N. Broadway, where you can sign up for several days in advance to speak your mind.
Let's work together to keep the Board of Directors on task, and to free us all from the eyesore which could be built anywhere and is totally inappropriate next to a grandiose protected structure.
I have reached out to the Park District and all of my numerous emails and phone calls have not yet been dignified with a response.
Let's go make sure that they get the message loud and clear on the 14th.
