Yesterday, Blockclubchicago.org reported on our struggle. It's great to get the word out (hint, hint: remember to share with other conscientious citizens).

As we receive and review documents received through FOIA requests, some glaring mistakes and bold changes were made.

In conjunction with the IDNR (Illinois Department of Natural Resources) and IL SHPO (State Historic Preservation Office), the application that was filed by the Museum includes the above sketch, and wording that clearly indicates that a 1500sqft archives building was the main subject of the application.

For some reason IDNR and/or IL SHPO gave a preliminary approval for the 1500sqft building in a manner that SKIPPED THE PUBLIC MEETING!

The actual structure, which is occupying our parkland, has a 4000sqft footprint.

Further documents, obtained through FOIA requests from the Chicago Park District have provided building plans submitted in October 2022 (AFTER THE DEPARTMENT OF BUILDINGS PLACED A "STOP WORK" ORDER) that show that the 2nd story will add another 2800sqft.

Although I am not a math professional, I think it is safe to say that 1500sqft does not equal 6800sqft.

We have not discovered any document from the hundreds of pages obtained through FOIA request from any of the involved numerous agencies that can explain how 1500 came to equal 6800.

Spread the news! Together, we can get this building moved to an appropriate location!
