Allow a trusted person provide childcare for work purposes during local lockdowns.

The Issue

Due to Covid-19 we are, at times, being forced into local lockdowns. During this time, we are still able to abide by the rule of 6, we can meet 6 people from different households in pubs, bars, restaurants. Our Children can go to school, nursery or a childminder. Yet we can not have members of other households in our homes, or enter theirs. This has a direct impact on households who utilise trusted persons external to their household to aid in their childcare requirements.

For many this is the only way we are able to afford to work. We move to have this changed, for those who currently have a trusted person external to their household (including support bubble) chosen to take care of their children in order for them to work - not for social reasons.

The financial impact and mental health impact of Covid-19 is already severe, issues like this create more anxiety and worry for thousands of families when local lockdowns are imposed.

If we can socialise with multiple households in social settings, if children can mix at school/nursery/at a childminders, then why can we not have one chosen trusted person external to our household (including support bubble) to support us in order to return to work and continue to support the economy through this difficult time.

This is extremely important to many families, especially if cases continue to rise across the country and more local lockdowns are enforced. More and more people are having to give up work as the cost of childcare is extortionate and a lot of wages do not cover the cost of childcare.

We need a single trusted person external to the household (including support bubble) to look after children for work purpose only during local lockdowns.
