Across the border this morning, dozens of civil society activists presented a memorandum to the Malaysian Parliament on the imminent execution of Nagaenthran. MP Kasthuri Patto, a Malaysian politician, has also urged the Malaysian government to intervene.

Additionally, several legal professional bodies from Malaysia have joined hands to submit an appeal for clemency to the Singapore government. Meanwhile, lawyer Mahajoth Singh has been valiantly staging a lone protest outside the Singapore High Commission in Kuala Lumpur since Sunday, in hopes of raising awareness about Nagaenthran’s plight.

Thanks to the commendable efforts of Malaysian activists, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia is starting to intervene in a bid to #SaveNagaenthran, and will be monitoring the progress of Nagaenthran’s case to provide appropriate consular assistance to him and his family.

The constitutional challenge to revoke Nagaenthran’s death sentence has also been fixed for hearing at the Supreme Court next Monday, 8 November. Prominent lawyer M Ravi has filed the challenge based on an article which relates to the right to life, and another article which relates to Singapore’s obligation towards adhering to a UN-sanctioned treaty prohibiting the execution of an intellectually disabled person.

In addition, Yahoo News has succinctly condensed a summary of the sequence of events which have transpired. However, although our campaign to #SaveNagaenthran is making headlines internationally, Singapore’s mainstream news outlets have remained deafeningly silent about Nagaenthran’s plight…

Nevertheless, a fire has been ignited across the borders, and I remain hopeful that a trail of justice will be blazed during the constitutional challenge that will take place in five days.
