Traffic Director at PC p.2
The Issue
Last year students fought for safety while going to school. That was temporarily achieved when the news covered the dangerous intersection. One year later the officer is pulled from Panther Creek. The question rises again, does someone have to die for change to be made? Does someone need to be hit in order to be given a sense of safety on their way to school? Students spend $200 each to purchase a parking spot. with approximately 500 spaces that is a profit of well over $100,000. If we took just one fraction of this money and put it towards student safety we could possibly be saving the lives of one of our students or members of this community. The intersection is often backed up either past the turning lane on the left side, or to the carpool lane on the right side. If the school doesn’t care about safety, they should at least care about reducing traffic and increasing the flow on McCrimmon. Just because there have been no major accidents on McCrimmon does not mean we should not take precautions. There have been numerous close calls this year from what I have personally witnessed. Sometimes the parents do not stop because they aren’t aware of the students turning, other times it’s the students continuing to turn left while cars keep moving. Change needs to be made. And change needs to be permanent. The question that I am raising in 2019 is why do we not deserve this safety.
