Campaigners Take Palma's Veterinary Records Dispute to Prosecutors

Palma's horse-drawn carriage controversy has taken another turn. Animal-rights organisation Progreso en Verde says Palma City Council has failed to provide the complete veterinary inspection report for horses working in the city's carriage industry. The organisation says it has now referred the matter to prosecutors.

Campaigners are also accusing the council of obstructing the transition to electric carriages. According to Progreso en Verde, carriage operators cannot yet order their electric replacements because they have no guarantee that the council will subsequently authorise them. The council has announced that it hopes to introduce its first electric carriages by summer 2027. But campaigners argue that the practical and regulatory obstacles preventing the transition remain unresolved.

These allegations have not been independently established, but they raise further questions about the council's handling of an industry it promised to abolish by 2024. Please continue signing and sharing our petition demanding that Palma keep its promise.
