The Issue

As I write this, my Big Dog Ranch Rescue (BDRR) dog has his head on my lap and he's looking up at me with those big, pleading eyes that won my heart four years ago. He's my best friend and without Big Dog Ranch, I truly don't know where he would be. Today, I heard some devastating news; Big Dog Ranch may be forced to give up 50 potential best friends that need them the most because the Town of Loxahatchee Groves is threatening to shut off their electricity on Monday. Big Dog Ranch is moving to a new location in Loxahatchee Groves where they are currently building a state of the art facility for their pups. In the mean time, nearly all of their animals were taken into devoted foster homes or sister rescues. Fifty of their dogs, however, were too ill, weak, or pregnant to be put into foster care and are being cared for by BDRR staff in trailers on the new property that were approved by the town. These are the dogs that need Big Dog Ranch Rescue the most. Over the years, I have seen them take in the worst of the worst - dogs that you just can't imagine making it through the night - but with BDRR they do. Now the town is saying that they never approved the trailers on the property to be used to care for the dogs and, in retaliation, will shut off BDRR's electricity on Monday - ultimately displacing dogs that have little to no chance making it in a county shelter. The BDRR community is HUGE and many Loxahatchee Groves residents are part of it. By signing this petition, we are asking our officials to reconsider making a decision that could cost 50+ innocent dogs and puppies their lives. Perhaps, instead of turning off BDRR's electricity, town officials could head over to the property and meet their new best friend!
