Ban the Sale, Manufacture of "PALCOHOL"

The Issue

We have asked the individual towns and their Municipal Alliances to sign this petition in support of banning the manufacture and sale of flavored, powdered alcohol made for human consumption, currently being marketed as 'Palcohol.'

The first approval was revoked.  It has now been re-packaged and re-released.

We already know the dangers of the abuse of liquid alcohol which is made of fermented food grade products and are currently providing educational programs to prevent underage drinking and the abuse of the substance by the general public.

In addition to the ability to conceal the product to enter public venues with a small packet of powder, this product may have unknown secondary uses as young adults may be tempted to experiment with the powdered substance, whose ingredient side effects are unknown, as well (i.e. various forms of ingestion).

We do not wish to provide any additional means for children and young adults to abuse alcohol in any form, however, the argument from the company website suggests that banning would create an additional atmosphere of abuse if not sold/regulated like liquid alcohol.

If legalized, the product would be much less visible for law enforcement during a routine traffic stop.  While a bottle of alcohol would more easily be visible and therefore improve the ability of preventing the danger of the underage participants ingesting the product or adding it to another person’s food or beverage without that person’s consent.

We urge you to approve ASSEMBLY, No.A3580 STATE OF NEW JERSEY 216th LEGISLATURE  which Prohibits sale of powdered alcohol.
