On 5th July 2025, on the 78th birth anniversary of late Padma Shri Dr. Lalji Singh, a mass movement resonated from Banaras Hindu University (BHU). The movement aims to demand the conferring of Padma Vibhushan posthumously on Dr. Lalji Singh, the great scientist of India, “Father of Indian DNA Fingerprinting” for his unprecedented contribution to the field of science. A support campaign was launched before the Government of India to take this demand to the masses. The campaign received widespread support at Dr. Lalji Singh Research Centre, Kalwari, Jaunpur, with letters of support from academicians, doctors, scientists, schools, colleges, and political personalities. The residents of Jaunpur in particular enthusiastically embraced this initiative, which is an important step towards honoring the legacy of Dr. Singh and inspiring young scientists.
