BOYS & GIRLS CLUB - Response to Board before tomorrow's (9/13) Zoom Meeting
SUMMARY: We received communication from the B & G Club Board that monthly financials were now only being discussed on a quarterly basis, and that mtgs will happen only by Zoom.
IMMEDIATE CONCERN: At this point, parents, the community, and most certainly any potential donors to our Pacifica clubs, do not have the necessary information to make an informed decision about the clubs direction.
Please see below for my response to the Board, sent tonight 9/12/22:
Hi Bruce and B & G Club Team,
Bruce thank you for your response, and keeping us informed of the current plans.
I have to say, I am disappointed that things are moving to Zoom only, and that the financials are now being discussed quarterly, instead of monthly.
Most of the agenda items for this next meeting can be posted on your website with an explanation, and these items do not seem to warrant a meeting. Also, there doesn’t seem to be enough background detail on agenda items for tomorrow, to determine if these partnership items will have a big impact.
The whole idea of discussing financials, on a monthly basis, with parents and the Board, is to keep a close eye on the financial health of our Pacifica clubs.
You may reach more people on Zoom, but I would also argue you’re going to lose interest, as well. Putting a virtual wall up between parents and the Board feels like we’re going in the wrong direction, especially when we are all trying to so hard to build a positive working relationship.
What about a hybrid model, can we meet in person, and also have the option for individuals to Zoom in?
The parents and community remained concerned that, without any parent consultation, the Board has chosen to not discuss financials in the monthly parent meetings. However, the quarterly releases on October 26th and in January should allow us to thoroughly discuss the financial situation in the subsequent parent meetings in November and February.
These quarterlies will reflect revenue collection for 7 months of the fiscal year, and will show the current strengths and weakness.
We remain concerned that there are no details on major sustaining fundraising. No information on sources, duration of foundation, corporate or government funding. When will we be able to discuss that?
In summary, at this point, parents, the community, and most certainly any potential donors to our Pacifica clubs, do not have the necessary information to make an informed decision about the clubs direction.
I have another meeting scheduled during the time of the September 13th meeting, so I will be unable to attend the Zoom call.
We would appreciate and look forward to a meeting summary, and will plan to attend in October.
Sincerely,
Erin Pickett
