Waste Free Hong Kong
Apr 26, 2018
Hi all, Thanks for the amazing response so far. If each of you share this link with as many people as possible, we can start to get the ball rolling even faster! I would like to share a facebook group created by Shaun Cunningham. It's a wonderful group that shares letters and petitions to companies around the world, putting pressure on for them to make changes. I have used the template he provided to create a letter sample for this petition. Please edit when necessary and send to: info@coffee-concepts.com Dear Starbucks Hong Kong, I'm a regular visitor to Starbucks and really like your [specific thing about establishment]. [Note: Keep it positive here and show that you like their business and that you'll be coming back] However, I noticed that on ordering drinks in your establishment, I, as well as everybody else, is automatically given a takeout cup. The problem with this is that there are hundreds of people across your stores every day who will sit down and drink or eat in. This seems to be completely unnecessary waste, and is easily avoided by simply asking people whether they will be drinking in or taking away. Another issue I find is that many people are using plastic stirrers and straws, as they are on show right next to where the drinks are handed to the customer. Again, I think it would make much more sense to leave these items behind the counter, and only provide on request. Hong Kong has a serious plastic issue, with much of it ending up in the ocean and we have to all do our part to help out. I was wondering if you would consider no longer using takeout cuts unless specifically requested. Not only will this help you reduce your plastic usage, but it will also save you money and improve your reputation as an environmentally friendly corporation! Very much look forward to hearing back from you, [Your Name]
