Dear Supporter,
Last few days have been emotionally grueling. As soon as the petition reached 10K signatures, we started writing to the Embassies & High Commissions around the world; USA, Canada, Australia, India have already heard from our volunteers to send this petition to his excellency P.M Imran Khan as an urgent request.
Disturbed by the new model which is a cookie cutter replica of marbleized Gurdwaras in East Punjab (with missing heritage structures like the Well and Mazaar of Baba Nanak), we started communicating with the ETPB. (Please read previous update).
American Sikh Council our greatest supporter also geared up in full action protesting the demolition in the complex and the plans of the new model. A couple of days ago our attention was caught by the following news clip from the Ajit newspaper the salient features of which were:
Pakistan Government Takes Crucial Decisions
* 800-acre land has been acquired around the Gurdwara complex.
* 300-acre land will have plants and trees and 100-acres will be used for organic farming of vegetables and grains that will be meant for the langar.
* Darbar Sahib, mazaar and the well will not be tampered with and will be kept intact.
* Sarovar, hotels, shopping malls, 500-bed serai, etc. will be bulit on the outside the complex of the Gurdwara.
Of course, it made us ecstatic but this is coming from only one source - the caretaker of the Gurdwara - Bhai Gobind Singh. While we are working on getting our hands on the actual plan from the government - we decided to keep marching and building international pressure. Until we get full assurance of our ask we will keep going. But please know that what we are doing is being heard in Islamabad.
