In the last update on Feb 1st 2019, I had mentioned about the positive news from the ground when the Gurdwara caretaker (Granthi) Bhai Gobind Singh issued a PR that the 100 acre fields will be used for Langar farming and there will be fruits orchards and native trees grown in 300 acres land. There have been subsequent videos released from the ground showing that the historical structures such as the well and mazaar of Baba Nanak Ji are intact. They said that the 18 year old fruit trees that they have uprooted will be replanted with more. We appreciate this information.
However, the model of the Gurdwara with the new marbleized construction all around it including the sarovar still stands published in contradiction to all that. The plans to build hotels, sarai and other structures right outside the periphery still stand. Until we get an assurance from the official sources for no new construction in and around the complex and the preservation of the fields, etc. we will continue to push.
Recently our ask has mounted a new support. PTI (Tehreek-e-Insaf) MPA Momina Waheed submitted a resolution in the Pakistan Assembly against construction around Kartarpur Gurdwara Complex and asking to protect the fields of Baba/Guru Nanak Ji. We appreciate her stand and wish the best for the resolution to pass in the assembly session in the upcoming weeks.
