Oxford City Council
Mar 14, 2017
Dear all,
Alongside the 8,312 signatures here on change.org, we received a further 1,748 signatures on hard copies of the petition – meaning we received more than 10,000 signatures against the unitary county council proposals.
Earlier today we presented these 10,000+ signatures to Oxfordshire County Council’s cabinet meeting, and called on the cabinet members to listen to your views and to scrap their proposals.
Despite this, Oxfordshire County Council’s cabinet voted to send the proposals to Government, for consideration by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Sajid Javid.
Over the coming weeks we will be working hard to behind the scenes to present your views to Mr Javid, and ask him to reject the unitary county council proposals.
If you would like to help, please consider contacting your MP:
• Write to Rt Hon Andrew Smith MP, Member of Parliament for Oxford East: www.andrewsmithmp.org.uk/contact
• Write to Nicola Blackwood MP, Member of Parliament for Oxford West and Abingdon: www.nicolablackwood.com/contact
Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to again say a huge thank you from everyone at Oxford City Council for your support and your kind words during this campaign. It has been truly heartening.
Yours sincerely,
Councillor Bob Price, Leader of Oxford City Council
