Dear all, First of all, thank you for signing our petition. The level of support and the depth of concern expressed – both in the comments on this petition, and in letters and emails that I have received personally – has been heartening. We often feel that our work to tackle the big issues facing Oxford – housing, the economy, inequalities, homelessness, poverty and climate change – is overlooked, so it has been humbling to see that people are taking note, and that there is such support for what we do. Next week Oxfordshire County Council’s cabinet will meet to agree the unitary county council proposals. If agreed, the proposals will then be submitted to government to make a decision on. We plan to take this petition to the cabinet meeting, and ask the County Council to abandon its proposals to abolish Oxford City Council and create a unitary county council. The County Council’s meeting will take place at County Hall in New Road at 2pm on Tuesday 14 March. It is open to the public. It would be wonderful to take 10,000 signatures with us, so if you could push this petition out on your social networks one final time we would very much appreciate it.
