I hope this message finds you all well, Labour-led Oxford City Council's Executive Board will meet this Thursday to decide whether to go ahead with their plans to invent a new criminal offence of 'noncompliant' busking and pavement art as well as the further criminalisation of marginalisation with heavy fines for 'persistent' begging. If these plans go ahead, musicians and artists could face fines of up to £1000 and a criminal record for singing songs in the wrong place and the wrong length of time. We are gathering outside HSBC on Cornmarket Street in Oxford from 3pm this Thursday to raise our collective voices in a musical protest against this soul-sapping clampdown on street culture and freedoms in public space. We will be practising some songs for a good singalong as the politicians arrive at the Town Hall to make their decision about the future of Oxford's public spaces...
