OCC Cabinet will finally be deciding whether to appropriate Bertie Park Recreation ground for building at 6.00 p.m. on 16th October. Campaign members will be gathering outside at 5.45.
Before they build on Bertie Park, OCC will have to appropriate the land. To appropriate Bertie Park, OCC will have to meet conditions set out by section 122 of the 1972 local government Act:
Show that Bertie Park is no longer needed.
“Properly and conscientiously” consider the community’s responses to their consultation (held more than a year ago)
When OCC cabinet was first scheduled to consider this a year ago, they pulled the item from the agenda, 3 hours before the meeting. They told people who nevertheless attended that they had to consider "legal issues."
We think we have a good chance of saving the park.
