Petition updateOWLS POISONED BY RAT BAITS - STOP BUNNINGS KILLING WILDLIFEThe Barn Owl Project - Some good news, but could you help by sending a letter?

Hi everyone,

We have some great news. The The Barn Owl Project is a fantastic initiative that uses nest boxes to encourage Barn Owls as a natural alternative to rat baits. The pilot project was launched two years ago in the Banyula, a regenerative farm at Clunes in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales. It included setting up nest boxes for owls to move in and help control the rodent population. It's been so successful that three other nearby farms have signed up.

This is a clear sign that the widespread use of rat baits is not necessary, and that we can work with nature, and encourage conservation while helping control the rodent population naturally.

Please use the template below, or write your own, and tell Bunnings how you feel about their refusal to take the worst of the rat baits off the shelves:

Dear Michael Schneider,

I am writing to express my serious concern about the sale of SGAR (Second-Generation Anticoagulant Rodenticides) rat baits at Bunnings. These baits are known to cause significant harm to native wildlife, including threatened owls and other animals, as well as pets.  I understand that Bunnings aims to provide solutions for pest control, but I believe the sale of SGAR baits is contributing to a serious environmental problem. BirdLife Australia and other organisations are reporting widespread deaths of non-target animals due to these poisons. I urge Bunnings to reconsider the sale of SGAR rat baits and explore safer, more sustainable alternatives for pest control. This could include promoting the use of traps, encouraging responsible waste management to reduce rodent populations, and educating customers about the dangers of SGARs. I would appreciate it if you could address this issue and let me know what actions Bunnings is taking to mitigate the impact of SGAR baits on wildlife.
Sincerely,

(Your name)

Thank you again for your support. We will post another update really soon.

All the best until next time,

Meg
