Overturn the pitbull breed ban in CB Iowa

Overturn the pitbull breed ban in CB Iowa
The Issue
My heart breaks at the thought of being separated from my furry family member due to an outdated law that wrongly categorizes all pit bull mixes as dangerous. The breed ban in Council Bluffs, Iowa doesn’t just prevent me from moving back home—it separates countless families from their beloved pets and perpetuates a harmful stereotype.
The misconception that all pit bulls or pit bull mixes are inherently aggressive is not supported by comprehensive studies. According to the American Temperament Test Society, pit bulls have an impressive temperament passing rate of 86.4%, which ranks them above several other popular breeds such as Golden Retrievers and Beagles. The CDC and the American Veterinary Medical Association both agree that breed-specific bans are ineffective at reducing dog bites and injuries. Instead, they advocate for breed-neutral laws promoting responsible pet ownership to enhance public safety.
It’s essential to understand that aggressive behavior in dogs has more to do with factors like training, socialization, and environment rather than breed. Responsible owners play a crucial role in shaping a dog's behavior. By overturning this unfair breed ban in Council Bluffs, we can focus on promoting responsible ownership, offering support and education for pet owners, and implementing comprehensive, community-based approaches to ensure public safety.
I urge the Council Bluffs City Council to repeal this discriminatory breed ban. Let's foster a community where all dogs and families can live peacefully together. Sign this petition to help lift the ban, allow me to reunite with my pet, and create a more inclusive community for everyone in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
