The Issue

College Football, as we know it and have known it for decades, is over.  The new 24-team format not only allows 4-5-loss teams to make the playoff, but it also takes away conference championship games and bowl games. Conference championships are a key part of college football, enhancing the stakes of rivalry games during the season, making sure every game matters, and much more.  Continuing on that idea, the end of bowl games is also detrimental to college football and its fans. Bowl season is a yearly tradition of great football games for about a month straight, with great entertainment and, arguably more importantly, great monetary incentives for G6 and lower-tier P4 schools. Also, the idea of a 4-5 loss team having the opportunity to make the playoffs is a concept that does not make any sense at all.

The 12-team playoff format was and is still the perfect format for college football. It ensures every regular-season game matters while still allowing teams to make mistakes during the season, which is crucial for a team's growth. It also still allows for bowl season and conference championships to still be meaningful and, at the very least, be played.

It is at this very crucial crossroads in college football history that we must urge both the NCAA and the College Football Playoff Committee to overturn the new format and return to the 12- or 4-team playoff structure to save the sport and preserve a tradition for generations to come.
