Overhaul the current passport issuance process in India

The Issue

Currently, the process of obtaining a passport in India is nothing short of chaotic. As a citizen who has personally experienced the cumbersome and inefficient system, I can attest to the frustration it causes for countless individuals, including families with infants, who are subjected to lengthy waits at Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) only to be turned away due to minor document discrepancies. This inefficiency not only wastes time but also causes unnecessary stress and hardship for the citizens who are only trying to obtain a document that is their rightful due.

The current system demands that people physically visit PSKs with bulky, hard-copy documents, which are then manually verified. This outdated process is not in tune with the digital advancements taking place worldwide, and it's high time India embraces a more streamlined and citizen-friendly system. The government ought to implement a system where applicants can upload the necessary documents online, thereby allowing government officials to verify these documents prior to the appointment. Such a system ensures that applicants are aware of any discrepancies in advance and can address them without unnecessary visits and stress.

By transitioning to an online documentation verification process, we can alleviate the burden on both citizens and PSK staff. After ensuring the documents uploaded are satisfactory, citizens can be asked to bring the original documents just once for a final verification at a scheduled appointment. This approach would drastically cut down on waiting times, lead to a more orderly and efficient appointment system at PSKs, and reduce the number of rejections due to document errors.

Implementing this streamlined approach would not only make the passport issuance process more manageable for individuals but also contribute to increased public satisfaction with government services. It's crucial that the government takes advantage of digital solutions to improve bureaucratic processes and enhance the citizen experience.

Also the police during verification can access these digitally verified documents and can then only verify the physical address of the applicant.

Please join me in urging the Indian government to overhaul the current passport issuance process to make it more efficient, citizen-friendly, and aligned with modern practices. Sign this petition to demand a better system for all of us.
